1. Dimensional Inspection

   • Dimensional inspection is sometimes referred to as dimensional measurement or dimensional metrology
     • uses quantifiable values to measure virtually any physical characteristics such as:
       • Length, width, and height.
         • Angles and perpendicularity.
           • Roundness, flatness, and other geometric characteristics.
             • Position.
               • Edge sharpness.
       • when dimensional measurement is required, the results must be both accurate and precise.
         • is used to compare the first objects from the manufacturing line to 3D CAD models
           • when the tolerance levels are more rigorous, each object is measured automatically.

2. Structural Inspection

   • the best methods to double check your visual inspection findings is to supplement them with one of the forms of nondestructive testing
     • Defects in nonmagnetic parts (aluminum parts) can be found by all these methods
       • Dye Penetrant Inspection
         • is a nondestructive test for defects open to the surface in parts made of any nonporous material.
         • It is used with equal success on such metals as aluminum, magnesium, brass, copper, cast iron, stainless steel, and titanium.
         • Eddy Current Inspection
           • are composed of free electrons under the influence of an induced electromagnetic field, that are made to drift through metal.
           • Readings in the affected area are compared with identical materials in known unaffected areas for comparison.
           • Ultrasonic Inspection
             • equipment makes it possible to locate defects in all types of materials. There are three basic ultrasonic
