PARETO CHART
- Definition: A quality tool used to identify and prioritize problems.
- 1. VILFREDO PARETO He was an Italian economist. He studied the distribution of wealth. He observed that wealth was distributed unequally. Later, Joseph M. Juran connected this idea with quality management. The idea became useful for identifying important problems.
- 2. WHAT IS A PARETO CHART? It is a quality tool. It helps identify and prioritize problems. Problems are organized from the highest frequency to the lowest. It helps determine which problems need more attention.
- THE PARETO PRINCIPLE It is related to the 80/20 principle. A small number of causes can produce a large part of the problems. A common example is 20% of causes → 80% of problems. The numbers are a general reference and are not always exactly 80/20
- MAIN ELEMENTS Bars Represent the frequency or quantity of each problem. They are ordered from highest to lowest. Cumulative line Represents the cumulative percentage. It normally reaches 100%.
- HOW TO MAKE A PARETO CHART 1. Identify the problem. 2. Collect the data. 3. Classify the problems or causes. 4. Count their frequency. 5. Order the data from highest to lowest. 6. Calculate the percentages. 7. Calculate the cumulative percentage. 8. Create the bars. 9. Add the cumulative line. 10. Analyze the main problems.
- 8. ADVANTAGES It is easy to understand. Organizes information clearly. helps prioritize problems. Makes data easier to analyze. Supports decision-making. Can be used in different areas of a company.
- APPLICATIONS It can be used in: * Quality * Production * Logistics * Customer service * Sales * Maintenance * Administration * Safety It can analyze defects, delays, complaints, errors, accidents, returns and failures.
- CONCLUSION The Pareto Chart is useful for identifying and prioritizing problems. It helps organize information, focus on important causes and improve processes.
