   • Defines the type of connection established between hosts and how acknowledgements are sent

3. Internet Layer

   • Defines the protocols used for addressing and routing the data packets
     • Network Layer

4. Network Interface Layer

   • Defines how the host connects to the network
     • Data Link Layer
