1. Hydrostatics: study of PRESSURES1 throughout a fluid at REST

2. Manometers: Help measure pressures.

3. Industry Application: the pressures at various points in a well must be found to determine velocity, temperature, specific gravity, etc.

4. Equation 1: Pressure = Force/Area

   • Equation 2: P_1/γ+h_1=P_2/γ+h_2
     • This is the eqn. for pressure head. Answer should be in units of length.
   • Units: N/(m*m) = Pascals OR lbf/ (ft*ft) = psi
