Descriptive statistics don't tell us if the results could have occurred by chance, this is what statistical tests tell us
3 categories of statistical tests
- 1. is the research looking for difference or a correlation?(relationship)
- 2. if the researcher is looking for a difference - what experimental design was being used?
- repeated measure and matched pair - must use related test , if independent group must use 'unrelated test'
- the hypothesis should give you a hint
