Wire Protection Techniques
Separation
- Essential system wire bundles separated by space
- Where bundles are in close proximity, separation must still be achieved
- Prevents effects of faults spreading to other power sources
- Prevent failure in one redundant system affecting another
- Avoid electromagnetic interference (EMI) between incompatible circuits
- Sleeves and shielded wire used when not possible to have physical separation
- Circuits where separation required, put in different harness assemblies
Wiring Segregations or Routes
- For safety and EMI reasons, electrical wires are installed in physically separated routes
- Grouped together according to the nature of the wires and the type of signal
- Six categories
- G - Generation
- P - Power Distribution
- M - Miscellaneous
- S - Sensitive Cables
- R - Audio Cables
- T/U/V - Coaxial Cables
- Main Routes
- Installed on opposite sides of the fuselage
- Secondary Routes
- Separated by a minimum distance of 25mm unless physical barrier is provided
