Chapter 2 and 7.1

  1. Section 2.2

    • 2.2 is about solving equations being able to pick out Rate of Change and initial Value
      • F(x)=5-2/3x
        • It is Linear
          • B= 5 and m = -2/3x
  2. Section 2.3

    • 2.3 is about being able to write out equations of a line and be able to model it
      • 12x-y=-15
        • Subtract 12x from both sides
          • y=-15-12x
            • m(x) = -12 b = -15
  3. Section 2.4

    • 2.4 is about Being able to identify if lines are parallel or perpendicular
      • and how to write the equations
        • If the equation of a line is y=2x+4
          • A parallel line is almost the same the slope will match but with different y - intercept
            • So y=2x+7
              • Perpindicular lines will have the opposite of the current slope and a different y-intercept
                • Like y=-1/2x - 3
  4. Section 2.5

    • 2.5 is about determining what the best fit line is and how to draw one
  5. Section 2.6

    • 2.6 is about being able to take information and algebraically solve the questions about the model
      • y=-15+3x
        • How much is needed to profit $45?
          • The answer is 60
            • so x=20
  6. Section 2.7

    • 2.7 is about identifying where lines intersect and how to find the exact point
  7. Section 7.1

    • 7.1 is about using the Substitution method and Elimination Method properly
      • The Substitution method
        • x=1/2y +3
          • and
            • 8x+3y=-11
              • To solve
                • 8(1/2y + 3) + 3y = -11
                  • 7y+24=-11
                    • Subtract 24 from both sides
                      • 7y=-35
                        • Divide by 7
                          • y= -5
                            • Put in one equation to find x
      • The Elimination method
        • 12x+y=12
          • and
            • 4x-3y=-16
              • Multiply the top equation by 3
                • 36x+3y=36
                  • The y values cancel out
                    • Leaving 36x=36 and 4x = -16
                      • Simplify
                        • Giving 40x=20
                          • Divide by 40
                            • x = 1/2
