Machining Processes
Engineered products often need the removal of additional material this is called SECONDARY MACHINING or FORMING
- TURNING
- Use of a Lathe to make generally a round/Cylindrical shape
- Work is held by a chuck and rotates
- A cutting tool is used to shape the work
- Work is held by a chuck and rotates
- Facing off - leaving flat surface on end of work not in chuck
- Drilling - Removing the inside of work with a drill bit
- Parallel Turning - Removing material from work but keeping it the same size througout
- Taper Turning - using a cutting tool at an angle to create a conical shape
- Parting Tool - tool used to cut off the work at the correct length
- Taper Turning - using a cutting tool at an angle to create a conical shape
- Parallel Turning - Removing material from work but keeping it the same size througout
- Drilling - Removing the inside of work with a drill bit
- Use of a Lathe to make generally a round/Cylindrical shape
- MILLING
- This machine has a spindle that holds a rotating cutter. The work is clamped down and the machine cuts the work to the desired shape.
- Two Types of Milling Machine
- Hoizontal
- Vertical
- DRILLING
- Creating a circular hole in work using a drill bit
- Different drill bits are used for different materials
- Wood
- Metal
- Masonry (Concrete/Stone)
- Wood
- TURNING
SAFETY Accidents are normally caused by loose clothing, flying pieces of material, hand coming into contact with moving parts, Minor burns. SO THE CORRECT PROTECTIVE CLOTHING/EQUIPMENT IS NEEDED (Goggles, Apron etc)
