Parabolas
What is a parabola? A parabola is a curve where any point is at an equal distance from: a fixed point (the focus ), and a fixed straight line (the directrix )
- Focus is a given point
- DIrectrix is a given line not through the focus
- Focus is a given point
The vertex of a parabola is the point where the parabola crosses its axis of symmetry.
- axis of symmetry is the line that runs down the parabola´s 'center'.
The equation of a parabola can be expressed in either standard or vertex.
- Standard Form Equation The standard form of a parabola's equation is generally expressed: y=ax2+bx+c
- Vertex Form of Equation The vertex form of a parabola's equation is generally expressed as: y = a(x-h)2+k
