  1. Using Computers as Mindtools

    • Semantic Organization Tools: help learners to analyze and organize what they know or what they are learning. eg. databases and concept maps.
      • Databases: Database management systems are computerised record keeping systems that have replaced paper-based filing systems. can be used to organise and analyse subject matter.
        • Semantic Networking tools: provide visual screen tools for producing concept maps. Concept maps require learners to draw visual maps of concepts connected to each other via links.
          • Dynamic Modeling Tools: includes systems modeling tools, expert systems, spread sheets and microwords. They help learners to describe dynamic ideas amongst themselves, meaning that it allows learners to use computerized models created for them to learn actively and interact with each other while successfully learning.
            • Spreadsheets: spread sheets are used to keep numerical records like learner grades. This is evident in schools through the use of SA SAMS which is a computerized system used to keep records of learner grades in all subjects they take at school.
              • Expert Systems
                • Systems Modeling Tools.
                  • Microworlds
                    • Information Interpretation Tools
    • Visualization Tools.
    • Knowledge Construction Tools
    • Hypermedia
    • Conversation Tools
  2. Rationales for Using Technology as Mindtools

    • Learners as Designers
    • Knowledge Construction, Not Reproduction
    • Learning with Technology
    • (Un)intelligent Tools
    • Distributing Cognitive Processing
    • Cost and Effort Beneficial
