Navigation models
Automatic transitions
- What is it?
- Where there is no human interaction with the presentation. The slide will move on without anybody touching the computer
- When would you use it?
- If you are showing a fixed amount of information for example an estate agency showing pictures of houses.
- Advantages
- Can be left to show slides continuously by looping the presentation.
- Does not need anyone to advance the presentation
- Timings are allocated to each slide so they show for a pre-defines period of time
- Disadvantages
- If you miss a slide, you have to wait for it to come round again
- If a presenter is present, they would not be able to expand on a point on the slide or stop to answer questions
- Automatic slides are no good if human interaction is required.

Manual transitions
- What is it?
- Where signalling of the slide is done by mouse click, key stroke, a hand held remote or touch screen
- When would you use it?
- It would be used in a presentation that requires human interaction, for emaple if a member of the audience asks a question, the presenter can keep the slide in view whilst they are explaining. If you wanted no time restriction on each slide thi would be ideal.
- Advantages
- The user can spend as long as they like on each slide before they move to the next one
- The presenter can allow audience participation/questions
- The presenter can control the presentation whilst they are talking.
- Disadvantages
- It requires the presenter to focus on what the presentation is showing and not on presenting to the audience
