        3. What was the Weimar Republic?
          1. New government in 1918
            1. Before this its was the Keiser Wilhelm II who ruled
              1. Britain, France, and U.S refuse to negotiate unless he step down
                1. Starvation caused by navel blockade
                  1. CHAOS
                    1. Armed soldiers and factory workers took control of many cities
                      1. Wanted Kaiser out!
                        1. He was persuaded by his military advisers to abdicate (step down)
                          1. Went from a monarchy to a republic
              2. Roles
                1. President: Elected every 7 years by the electorate
                  1. He had control of the army
                    1. Took power is in a emergency
                      1. Elected the Chancellor
                  2. Chancellor: President decides when elected
                    1. Has to have support of majority (over 51%) of the politicians in the Reichstag
                    2. The Reichstag: The German parliament
                      1. It makes laws
                        1. MPs are voted for by the German electorate
                          1. Proportional Representations
                            1. This means parties get the same % of seats as their % of national vote
                      2. Electorate
                        1. All German adults could vote could vote
                          1. Elections for the Reichstag took place every 4 years
                    3. Weakness of the Constitution
                      1. Article 48
                        1. It wasn't democratic
                          1. A weak president into using it too often by a strong chancellor
