Alchemy and The Scientific Connection
  1. Earth Science
    1. Role of Water: Identify and describe the atmospheric and hydrosperic conditions related to weather systems.
      1. Alchemy turns matter into something else like how the water does on the atmosphere
        1. Water in the atmosphere goes from a gas to a liquid to make rain. If its cold enough rain turns into snow.
      2. Chemistry
        1. Provide evidence to support the fact that common substances have the ability to change into new substances.
          1. Alchemy is the transformation of base metals into gold.
            1. Some substances can undergo something called chemical change when it turns into something else.
          2. Astronomy
            1. Regular and Predictable Motion: Identify and explain celestial phenomena using the regular and predictable motion of objects in the solar system
              1. The base metals are centered around the planet’s movements
                1. The rotation of the moon causes lunar and solar eclipeses. The rotation of Earth causes night and day.
              2. Biology
                1. Change Over Time:Recognize and describe that evolutionary change in species over time occurs as a result of genetic variation in organisms and environmental changes.
                  1. When an alchemist reaches the philosopher’s stone they can change any substance or animal into another.
                    1. When a speices gains a genetic variation that will benifit it. The speices will specifically breed with that one.
                  2. Physics
                    1. Recognize and explain that energy can neither be created or destroyed; rather it changes form or is transferred through the action of forces.
                      1. With alchemy the amount of energy you get out is as much as you put in otherwise known as the equivalent.
                        1. When atoms go from form of matter to another then back again it will weigh the same.
                      2. Thermodynamics
                        1. Identify and explain that heat energy is a product of the conversion of one form of energy to another.
                          1. when transmutations acquire they are very hot but mostly when they are making gold.
                            1. The rapid movement of atoms in the atmosphere makes energy very efectively.
                          2. Enviromental issues
                            1. Recognize and explain how human activities can accelerate or magnify many naturally occurring changes.
                              1. Alchemists make different metals out of base metals.
                                1. Humans build dams and spill chemicals into water which effects the ecosystem.
