Act 4

1. Hecate and the three witches are surrounding a cauldron and chanting a spell.

   • Macbeth comes in, the witches give him three visions called apparitions.
     • The third is a child wearing a crown and holding a tree who tells Macbeth he will never be defeated until a forest moves up to his castle walls.
       • Macbeth asks them if Banquo's descendants will be kings.
         • The last one of them is holding a mirror full of pictures of more of his descendants as kings. The witches then disappear, leaving Macbeth alone.
           • Ross informs Lady Macduff that her husband has fled.
             • Momentarily, a messenger rushes in, telling her and her son that they have to leave immediately.
               • Murderers come in, chase Lady Macduff, and kill her son.
                 • Malcolm and Macduff join forces and decide to kill Macbeth!
           • Lennox tells Macbeth that Macduff has fled to England.
             • Macbeth sends murderers to kill everyone in Macduff's castle.
         • The witches show Macbeth a vision of Banquo’s ghost smiling and pointing to a line of eight kings who are Banquo’s descendants.
     • The second one is a bloody child who says Macbeth will not be threatened by anyone who was born from a woman.
     • The first one is of an armored head saying “beware Macduff”.
