Act 5

1. Lady Macbeth is suffering from sleep walking and hallucinations.

   • In the meantime, Macbeth hears the cries of women, then is informed that his way is dead, however, he is too involved in the combat about to happen and distracted by his thoughts to care about his wife.

2. Meanwhile, the English forces (Macduff, Malcolm, Malcolm’s uncle ‘Siward’, Siward’s son, and English soldiers) meet the Scottish soldiers and join forces.

   • Malcolm tells every soldier to cut down a tree branch from the forest of Birnam Wood and put it in front of them so that Macbeth’s soldiers won’t be able to know how many soldiers there are.
     • A while later, a messenger informs Macbeth that he saw the forest of Birnam Wood moving towards the castle.
       • Macbeth takes action and orders his soldiers to go outside to fight.
         • Macbeth kills Siward's son, so Macduff finally decides to face Macbeth
           • Macbeth confidently tells Macduff that no one born from a woman would defeat him, so prior to killing Macbeth, Macduff tells him that he in fact was not born from a woman; Macduff finally defeats Macbeth!
             • With Macbeth’s head in his sword, Macduff announces Malcolm king of Scotland, and they all hail to him.
               • Malcolm is crowned king of Scotland and grants everyone who fought a royal title called an "earl".
       • As soon as they neared the castle, Malcolm orders the soldiers to drop the tree branches and announces that the Siwards will lead the first attack.
