CELLS AND CELLS PHYSIOLOGY

  1. The basic unit of all living things.

    • ANIMAL CELLS
      • PARTS FUNCTION
        • Nucleus: control centre of the cell.
          • Cytoplasm: suspends all the cell organelles.
            • Cell membrane: controls what enter and leave the cell.
              • Mithocondrion: production of energy.
                • Vacuole: used for storage.
                  • Ribosomes: makes proteins.
    • PLANT CELLS
      • PARTS FUNCTION
        • Nucleus: control centre of the cell.
          • Cytoplasm: suspends all the cell organelles.
            • Cell membrane: Controls what enter and leave the cell.
              • Cell wall: surrounds and protects the cell.
                • Chloroplast: converts sunlight into plants food.
                  • Vacuole: used for storage.
                    • Mithocondrion: production of energy.
                      • Ribosomes: makes proteins.
  2. EXPERIMENTS

    • EXAMINE AN ANIMAL CELL
      • METHOD
        • 1. Swab inside cheek with disposable swab.
          • 2. Transfer the sample to the slide with a drop of water.
            • 3. Apply the cover slip (45º) and examine it.
              • Stained

                  • 2. Transfer the sample to the slide.
                    • 3. Cover it with a drop of methylene blue solution.
                      • 4. Apply the cover slip (45º) and examine it.
        • Unstained
    • EXAMINE A PLANT CELL
      • METHOD
        • Unstained
          • 3. Apply the coverslip and examine.
            • 1. Separate 2 fleshy leaves and peel off the epidermis between them.
              • 2. Put the piece into water on the slide.
          • Stained
