Harvard Referencing

  1. When referencing from a book:

    • Author, Year, Title, Edition, Place: Publisher.
    • E.g. Spence, J.D., 2013. The Search for Modern China. 3rd ed. New York: W.W. Norton.
    • This information can be found on the title page of a book or on the back of this title page.
    • Alternatively using the library's 'OneSearch' can give you these details.
    • Also if its a 1st edition of a book you don't need to state this.

  2. When referencing from an article (Journal, Magazines, Newspapers):

    • Author, Year of publication, Article title, Journal title, Volume number (issue or part number), Start & end page numbers.
    • E.g. Ghosh j., 2000. The jurisprudence of the European Court on tax and the fundamental freedoms. The Corporate Tax Review, 3 (1) 43-70.
    • When articles don't have a volume or issue number this can be substituted for the Date, Month or Season.
