LAYERS OF THE ATMOSPHERE

1. Troposphere

   • extends above the earth 10 to 16 kilometers
   • Most weather conditions occur here
   • Tropopause=region where in the temp. is 52°C

2. Stratosphere

   • extends 50 kilometers
   • includes ozone layer
   • Stratopause=boundary between the stratosphere and mesosphere

3. Mesosphere

   • Directly above the Stratosphere
   • temperatures are below -143°C
   • meteors pass this layer

4. Theremosphere

   • Extends above the earth 90 kilometers
   • The thermosphere is typically about 200° C
   • Thermopause is the boundary between the theremosphere and exosphere
