VTP resides inside DTP. any issue in VTP, DTP trunking wont work.

1. VLAN replication

2. works only on trunk ports btw switches

3. VTP has domain name

4. VTP Modes:

i) Server: Can create/delete VLAN. VLAN 2-1001 are configurable. Vlan is stored in vlan.dat file

ii)Client: cannot create/delete VLAN

iii) transparent: vlan info is not stored, pass through only VTP msgs. same domain though. create/delete VLAN. support extended VLANs also.

To change revision number to zero -> change domain name. or change vtp mode to transparent.

VTP Pruning:

1.Reduces L2 broadcast.

2.configured on VTP server. #vtp pruning.

3. server sync all clients for vtp pruning

if client2 doesn't have any port in vlan2,it will send a prune message to server. server will stop sending broadcast traffic to client2 for vlan2
