3 Factor That Affect Solubility
-Type of solute
-Type of solvent
-Temperature
Particle Model of Matter
1. All matter is made up of tiny particles. Different matter is made up of different types of particles
2. The tiny particles are always moving. The more energy (heat) they have, the faster they move
3. Particles may be attracted or bonded to one another
4. The particles have space between them
Factors Affecting the Rate of Dissolving
-Increased temperature (increases speed of particles and number of collisions)
-Smaller pieces (solute has greater surface area)
-Stirring it (moves particles around increasing the number of collisions)
Viscosity
- Viscosity is a measure of a fluid's ability to flow
- Viscosity is determined by the fluid's internal friction or resistance
- The higher the viscosity the 'thicker' the fluid
Density
1cm3 = 1ml
1L of water weighs 1kg
The density of water equals 1g/l
Pressue
Pressure is the measure of the amount of force applied to a certain area
P=F/A
P(pressure)=F(force)/A(area)
Pressure is measured in N/m2, N/cm2 or pascals 1Pa=N/m2
Pascal's Law: An enclosed fluid transmits pressure equally in all directions
