I. Thesis: Because of the growth in Catholicism in the Victorian Era, the protagonists in Dracula were able to use faith and religious symbols to overcome the evils against them.

A. Topic Sentence 1: Mina and Van Helsing's group used their faith to give themselves motivation to keep going and to ultimately defeat Dracula.

1. CD: " I fear, as I never feared before. We can only trust the good God" (Stoker360)

2. CD: " Well, may God's will be done- whatever it may be, and withsoever it may lead!" (Stoker 384)

3. CD: "Thank God, for His great mercy!" (Stoker 363)

B. Topic Sentence 2: Throughout the novel, the main characters used several religous things to repel the evil .

1. CD: "Therefore I shall fix some things she like not-garlic and a crucifix." (Stoker 218)

2. CD: "As he had placed the Wafer on Mina's forehead, it seared it." (Stoker 314)

3. CD: "God does not purchase souls in this wise; and the Devil, though he may not purchase, does not keep faith." (Stoker 322)

II. Closing Thoughts:

Freedom of Religion

People don't really channel their faith nowadays.

Religion back then was more for superstitions

We don't really use religious symbols to "repel evil"

Most people use crucifixes just to show that they are a Christian. I don't think we think that anything really bad will happen because times are different (we basically live in a bubble).
