Some of the most pronunciation features are that there is no differnce between long and short vowels, hance the contrast existin gin RP between /ɑː/ and /æ/ does not exist because both in SE are pronounced/a/. The same happens with the contrast between /u:/ and /ʊ/ which become /u/ and /ɔ:/ and /ɒ/ which become /ɔ/. Another important feature is rhoticity which means that /r/ is pronounced in every phonological context. There is also a tendency toward monophthongism as eɪ/ becomes /e/ and /əʊ/ becomes /o/. In addition there are only 3 diphthongs and no triphthongs. We can also mention that SE has two consonant sounds that do not exist in RP /x/ and /ʍ/, that voiceless plosives in word initial position stressed syllable followed by a vowel are unaspirated and that /l/ is always dark
