- Instead of load balancing per VLAN, we load balance per instance.
-so suppose we want to load balance for 20 VLANs, we can create 4 topology with different load balancing methods and assign each VLAN one of those typologies.topology is called a instance
- default MST instance is 0
- maximum of 16 instance can be created
-when MST is enabled, RSTP is enabled automatically
