William Shakespeare wrote this play with an intense plot in (1606). Macbeth the main character is followed in the chase of him increasingly becoming powerful, therefore using any means to reach his desires- even murder. His wife Lady Macbeth encourages him to do so and slowly comes mentally crazy doing so. <Power comes with a price> Macbeth's world falls apart and he is killed by Macduff.

Leaving the place for the rightful king to be taken back by <Malcolm>, Duncan's son.

Historical Context:

The early 17th century was a time of political upheaval, suspicion and superstition. A new king had just come to power and the state of the country seemed quite uncertain. This play reflects these changes, as it includes witches, the king being murdered, king's place taken over by the murderer.

Key plot detail:

Whilst coming back from a victorious battle, Macbeth and Banquo meets three witches. Gives him three predictions: thane of Glamis, Thane of Cawdor ( a more powerful position then he currently holds, he will become the king of Scotland. Tell Banquo will never be king, but his descendants will, the witches vanish leaving them to ponder. Then we see in another scene Macbeth has been given the position of the thane of Cawdor for helping the king win the battle. Macbeth then receives this news, starts to wonder if the other predictions will come true.

Lady Macbeth encourages Macbeth to kill the recent king (Duncan).
