   • died age 80
     • body cremated, placed in a stupa

3. Siddartha gotama

   • indian prince
   • let out of palace at 16 for first time
     • saw a sick person,an old man, and a corpse
       • decided he should find the meaning of suffering
         • left palace, changed into rags and shaved his head
       • saw suffering and thought for the first time
   • predicted to be great man
     • if he saw suffering, would become great religious ruler
   • father ordered no one sick old in palace
   • clever and hansome
     • married; princess Yasodhora
       • had family
         • left his family behind
           • discovered buddhism
             • 2 main types of buddhism are; Theravada, Mahayena
               • population now; 376 million approximately
