Rockets & Satellites

  1. Rockets Lift Off?

    • The force generated to lift a rocket/shuttle in space requires a great amount of force, and it uses the third law of motion
    • As they lift off, they burn fuel and push the exhaust gases downward at a high velocity
      • The gases then push upward on the rocket with an equal but opposite force
    • A rocket can rise into the air because the gases it expels with a downward action force exert an equal but opposite reaction force on the rocket
  2. Satellites

    • Any object that orbits another object in space
    • Circular Motion
      • Centripetal Force
        • Any force that causes an object to move in a circular path
    • Artificial Satellites
      • Artificial Satellites are launched my people so that there can be things such as weather forecasts, text messaging or anything like that
    • Satellite Motion
      • Why don't satellites fall to the Earth because of Gravity?
        • Satellite's have a greater horizontal velocity than a ball would have, satellites all around earth
      • Satellites in orbit around Earth continuously fall toward Earth, but because Earth is curved they travel around it
