Multiplying and Dividing Fractions

When multiplying and dividing fractions, write whole/mixed numbers as improper fractions.

Example:

5 4 20 (multiply the numerators together)

_ x _ = _

7 9 63 ( multiply the denominators together)

For division, turn the second fraction upside down (taking the reciprocal) and multiply the

fractions together.

Example:

3 1/2 divided by 4/5

=7/2 divided by 4/5

=7/2 x 5/4

= 35/8

=2 3/8
