Spread of pathogens

1. Food

   • Eating raw or undercooked food
     • Causes salmonella or diarrhoea
   • Causes illnesses because large amounts of micro-organisms are in the gut

2. Touch

   • Micro-organisms are spread through having direct contact with an infected person

3. Water

   • Drinking water containing sewage
     • Can cause diarrhoea or salmonella

4. Air/droplet transmission

   • Coughing, sneezing or talking
     • Expelling tiny droplets full of pathogens from breathing system
       • Other people breath in droplets and pathogens they contain

5. Sharing body fluid

   • Can be spread through mosquitos
     • Take infected blood from one person and pass it to another

6. Animals

   • Being bit by an infected animal
     • Pathogens are transferred from animal to you

7. A break in the skin

   • Pathogens enter body through cuts, scratches or needle punctures
