The UK North-South Divide

The Northern part of the UK is composed of hills and mountains.

This is where manufacturing was located until de-industrialisation began.

Unemployment levels are higher.

The population is growing slowly due to migration to the south.

There is less demand for housing, so house prices are lower.

The Southern part of the UK is composed of flat, fertile lowlands.

There was less manufacturing here, so de-industrialisation is not a big issue.

Employment levels are higher.

The population is growing much more quickly.

There is a housing crisis and house prices are very high.
