Concentration
Slides in this set (3)
-
- Many chemical reactions take place in solutions.
- Concentration is the amount of a substance per unit volume .
- The concentration of a solution can be measured in mass per given volume of solution, moles per given volume or volume per given volume.

- 80g of copper (II) sulfate is dissolved in 500ml of water. What is the concentration of the solution in terms of \(\text{mol }dm^{-3}\)?
- The molar mass of copper(II) sulfate is 160g. Therefore, we have dissolved 0.5 mole in 0.5 \(dm^{3}\) of solution.
- This is the same as dissolving 1 mole in 1 \(dm^{3}\) of solution.
- This means the concentration is \(\text{1 mol }dm^{-3}\)
