Middle and Lower Landforms - Meanders
- A meander is a bend in the river...
- On the inside bend, There is a curved bench, a very gentle convex slope and the sediment is sand, pebbles and gravel that are smooth and rounded by attrition.
- On the outside bend, there is a steep drop into the river, it can be several metres high and composed mostly of bare earth.
- There is less water on the inside, there is more friction and a lower velocity.
- The fast flowing water with lots of energy is directed to the outside bank.
