Asclepios was the 'God of Healing' to the Greeks. Many Greeks preferred to go to an Asclepion rather than seeing a doctor. They believed that during the night, Asclepios would visit them with his daughters Panacea and Hygeia to cure them. However this probably isn't why many were cured of the illness that they went in with. The Temples were normally healthy places, they had baths and arenas for exercise. People slept in abatons (open-air buildings). They may have gotten better because of the healthy atmosphere or their faith in Asclepios and that he would heal them.
