Fichas
Biology B3.2 A - Moving molecules
Fichas del conjunto (12)
- 1What is diffusion?Molecules of gas & liquids moving randomly, colliding with each other making them spread out.
- 2What is the net movement of molecules of diffusion? From an area of high concentration to a lower concentration.
- 3What is meant by a passive process?A process that doesn't need any energy
- 4Where are stomata found? On the surfaces of leaves, mostly on the underside.
- 5What is the function of stomata? They allow CO2 to enter the leaf for photosynthesis/
- 6How is diffusion used in stomata?Molecules of CO2 diffuse from an area of higher concentration (The atmosphere) to one of lower concentration (Spaces inside the leaf filled with oxygen) & allow oxygen to diffuse out.
- 7What is osmosis?Diffusion of a liquid through a semi-permeable membrane.
- 8What is a semi-permeable membrane?A barrier that allows some substances through but not others.
- 9How is osmosis used in plant roots?Water molecules diffuse through root hair cell membranes from the soil into the cell.
- 10How do plants become turgid?Water in pant cell, they bulge & become stretched.
- 11What is active transport?Movement of molecules that requires energy.
- 12When is active transport used in plants? To move nitrate ions from the soil into the roots.
