- 1Object pronounsObject pronouns are pronouns used after a preposition or after a verb.
- 2Example: Maria likes Tom. If we change the nouns to pronouns we get...She likes him.
- 3Maria is the subject. Maria is a woman. There is only one Maria. so...'She' is a the subject pronoun for Maria.
- 4Maria likes Tom. Tom isn't the subject. Tom is a man. There is only one Tom. So...'him' is the object pronoun for Tom.
- 5Let's do this in a different way.We're going to change roles.
- 6Tom likes Maria.Let's change the nouns for pronouns.
- 7He likes her.How did we do this?
- 8Tom is the subject of the sentence. Tom is a man and there is only one Tom. So...The subject pronoun for Tom is
'He'. - 9Maria is NOT the subject of the sentence.Maria comes after the verb.
- 10Maria is a woman and there is only one Maria here. So...We need an object pronoun for Maria.
The object pronoun is 'her'. - 11How about a little practice?Let's change the subject pronouns to object pronouns.
