- 1How does RAM improve performance? The faster the RAM, the faster the processing speed. With faster RAM, you increase the speed at which memory transfers information to other components.
- 2Difference between RAM and ROMThere is one major difference between a ROM (read-only memory) and a RAM (random-access memory) chip and is volatile. ROM can hold data without power and RAM cannot and is non-volatile. Essentially, ROM is meant for permanent storage, and RAM is for temporary storage
- 3Purpose of RAMThe purpose of RAM is to provide quick read and write access to a storage device. Your computer uses RAM to load data because it's much quicker than running that same data directly off of a hard drive.
- 4Purpose of ROMROM is the memory that comes with your computer that is pre-written to hold the instructions for booting-up the computer
- 5virtual memoryMemory that appears to exist as main storage although most of it is supported by data held in secondary storage, transfer between the two being made automatically as required.
- 6Embedded systemsA computer built into another device, e.g. a Some examples of embedded systems are MP3 players, mobile phones, video game consoles, digital cameras, DVD players, and GPS
- 7secondary storageExternal data storage used to store data so that the computer can be switched off
- 8CacheQuick access memory inside the CPU.
- 9coresA CPU can contain one or more processing units. Each unit is called a core. A core contains an ALU , control unit and registers CPUs with multiple cores have more power to run multiple programs at the same time
- 10arithmetic logic unit (ALU)A component of the CPU that performs arithmetic and logic calculations.
- 11Solid state storageIt is non-volatile it is used for faster access
times and has no moving parts.

- 16MARMemory Address Register (MAR) is the CPU register that stores the memory address from which data will be fetched from the CPU
- 17Virtual memoryVirtual memory is a section of volatile memory created temporarily on the storage drive. It is created when a computer is running many processes at once and RAM is running low.
- 18Clock speedThe clock speed - also known as clock rate - indicates how fast the CPU can run. This is measured in megahertz (MHz) or gigahertz (gHz)
