Fichas del conjunto (33)
- 1CPUCPU processes data operations. It controls the operations in a computer.

- 2What is Fetch, Decode, Execute?Fetch - gets the instructions from the main memory and into the registers
Decode - The CPU decodes the instructions
Execute - The CPU executes these instructions - 3Control UnitThe CU tells the computer memory, ALU and Input/Output devices how to respond to the instructions they are given
- 4ALUThe ALU carries out operations that are arithmetic and logic operations, it is divided into two units. The Arithmetic unit and Logic unit
- 5What are registers used for?Registers are a type of memory used to quickly transfer data and instructions.
- 6What is a clock? and what measurement does it use?It uses Hz as measurement
The clock indicates how fast a CPU can run - 7What is cache? It is a component that stores data so that certain data can be found faster.
- 8Program CounterA program counter is a register that has the location of an instruction being executed. Everytime an instruction is fetched, the program counter increases its value by one
- 9MDRMDR holds data being transferred to or from the memory.
- 10MARMAR stores memory adress or data that needs to be fetched
- 11AccumulatorA register for immediate, short term storage for Arithmetic and Logic data in a CPU
- 12Von Neumann ArchitectureA design that most computers follow, the elements of it are; Data and instructions are stored as binary and the Fetch, Decode, Execute cycle repeats until there is nothing left to process.
- 13RAMRandom Access Memory is a type of computer memory that can fetch data in any given order.
- 14ROMRead-only-Memory is a type of non-volatile memory which stores the bios
- 15Virtual MemoryVirtual Memory is used when the RAM is full, programs which haven't been used in a while are moved to the virtual memory in the hard-drive.
- 16Internal Hard DriveStored inside a PC, they are one of the cheapest storage devices
- 17Volatile MemoryData is lost when the computer is turned off
- 18Non-Volatile MemoryData is kept when the computer is turned off
- 19Secondary StorageNon-Volatile memory storage that holds files and programs
- 20Optical StoragesCD
DVD
Blu-Ray - 21Magnetic Storage DevicesMagnetic tape
Hard disk drive - 22Solid State StoragesUSB
Memory Card - 23Things to consider with storage devicesCapacity, Speed, Portability, Reliability, Durability, Cost
- 24CapacityHow much data the storage device holds
- 25PortabilityHow portable it is
- 26SpeedHow fast it can access data
- 27ReliabilityHow reliable it is, how likely it is that it will still be working over a long period of time
- 28DurabilityHow strong it is, how likely it is to break
- 29CostCost per GB, used to compare against other storage devices
- 30Computational ThinkingThe process of breaking down a problem into simple steps that a computer can understand to be able to solve a problem
- 31AbstractionOnly focusing on the important information
- 32DecompositionBreaking down a complicated problem into smaller parts
- 33Algorithmic ThinkingCreating a step by step solution for a problem or a set of rules for the problem
