- 1What is caching?when regularly used data/ instructions are stored in cache/ram in case they are needed again. This allows faster access for when it is needed again in the future.
- 2Why is cache memory faster?Because it is stored in the RAM, it does not need to be read from the hard disk again
- 3What is prefetching?Where an instruction is requested from memory by the CPU before it is required, to speed up the retrieval time. This is done by using an algorithm that can predict the likely future instructions that are going to be needed so that they are ready in the cache as soon as they are neede.
- 4What are some advantages of caching?Can predict the likely future instructions that are going to be needed.
Reduces execution times as the data is always waiting to be processed before its requested. - 5What are some disadvantages of caching?Can be very complicated to implement effectively.
If the wrong data is cached, it can be difficult to re-establish the correct sequence of data items/ instructions.
