Fichas del conjunto (21)
- 1What are the two logic functions in a half-adder?AND logic gate and an XOR logic gate.
- 2What are the two outputs of a half-adder?A sum and carry.
- 3What are the two inputs for a half-adder?A half-adder has 2 binary inputs.
- 4What are the inputs for a full-adder?A full-adder has 3 inputs. 2 binary inputs and a carry input.
- 5What are the outputs for a full-adder?A full-adder has 2 outputs. Sum and carry - this is the same as a half-adder.
- 6What is the limitation of using just a full-adder on its own?The full-adder can only add 1 bit values.
- 7What is a parallel adder and what does it do?A parallel added is a sequence of full-adders which allow the adding of multi-bit values (eg 4 bit). Parallel adders can be scaled up to add bigger bit values.
- 8What is a bus?A bus is a collection of signals which are grouped together for convenience.
- 9What are buses normally used for?A bus is normally used to group a collection of bits which are being used to form a particular variable.
- 10How is a bus denoted?There are two styles:
bus<31:0>
bus[31:0]
Which both denote a 32-bit bus. - 11What is abstraction?Process of taking away or removing characteristics from something in order to reduce it to a set of essential characteristics.
- 12What should a function be, when following the rules of abstraction?- Sensible
- Simple to understand
- Self-contained
- Have defined interfaces - 13What is hierarchy?Splitting a complex design down into easy and more manageable chunks.
- 14What is the difference between abstraction and hierarchy?Abstraction is when you hide detail & hierarchy is when the design is broken down and reused.
- 15What does a clock do?A clock is used to ensure steps happen at the correct time. It is a signal that changes between 1 and 0 at a set frequency.
- 16What is a flip-flop?A flip-flop is used to store information. Based on the state of the inputs, a flip-flops output will be either 0 or 1. It will output this even if the inputs are deactivated.
- 17What inputs does a D-type flip-flop have?A minimum of 2 inputs. A data input and a clock input.
- 18When does a D-type flip-flop save the value of the data input? On the rising edge of the input clock.
- 19What output does a D-type flip-flop have?An output and a complementary of that output. (The saved value and the opposite of the stored value)
- 20Why are there delays within a circuit?Different components (eg logic gates) take time to propagate.
- 21What can we use timing diagrams for? They allow us to see delays and highlight possible errors or glitches.
