- 1"I say I am a man, but who is the other who hides in me?" (Frankenstein)Frankenstein is the creator of evil - links with the idea of Frankenstein taking a God-like role. The act makes Frankenstein's 'other' a physical reality. The monster acts as a manifestation for Frankenstein's mind.
Links with the doppelganger effect - there are 2 sides to every man. God never made man pure there are animalistic instincts that links with the concept of evolution - Gothic concept that God made something unpure. - 2"persues nature to her hiding places"Frankenstein creates disruption in the microcosm (disrupting himself - deterioration of health) and macrocosm (disturbs the natural process of life - Gothic theme).
Use of 'her' makes nature seem vulnerable, weak because of the Victorian view of woman, making Frankenstein predatory. - 3Mont Blanc, the supreme and magnificent Mont Blanc"Mont Blanc is the highest point in Europe. Shelley specifically uses this setting to extend the degree of isolation felt by the monster. The power of the environment is a Gothic concept as man likes to be in control therefore when that power is lost there is great potential for destruction - represented by the word "supreme" - the greatest/highest in rank.
