- 1The purpose of CPU -It is responsible for executing a sequence of stored instructions called a program. This program will take inputs from an input device, process the input in some way and output the results to an output device.Common CPU components:
- ALU (Arithmetic Logic Unit)
- CU (Control Unit)
- Cache - 2ALU An arithmetic logic unit (ALU) is a digital circuit used to perform arithmetic and logic operations.CU
The control unit (CU) is a component of a computer's central processing unit (CPU) that directs the operation of the processor. - 3Cache Cache is a small amount of memory which is a part of the CPU - closer to the CPU than RAM. It is used to temporarily hold instructions and data that the CPU is likely to reuse. How common characteristics of CPU's affect their performances:
- clock speed
- cache size
- number of cores - 4Clock speed - number of instructions per second. cache size - its data storage inside CPU that much faster than RAM.Number of cores - it process data independently.the more cores a CPU has the more instructions it can carry outEmbedded systems
- They are dedicated systems that are designed for a fixed purpose. - 5The function of the CPU as fetch & execute instructions stored in memoryThe basic operation of a computer is called the ‘fetch-execute’ cycle. The computer fetches the instruction from its memory and then executes it. This is done repeatedly from when the computer is booted up to when it is shut down.
