Fichas del conjunto (12)

  1. 1What is diffusion?Molecules of gas & liquids moving randomly, colliding with each other making them spread out.
  2. 2What is the net movement of molecules of diffusion? From an area of high concentration to a lower concentration.
  3. 3What is meant by a passive process?A process that doesn't need any energy
  4. 4Where are stomata found? On the surfaces of leaves, mostly on the underside.
  5. 5What is the function of stomata? They allow CO2 to enter the leaf for photosynthesis/
  6. 6How is diffusion used in stomata?Molecules of CO2 diffuse from an area of higher concentration (The atmosphere) to one of lower concentration (Spaces inside the leaf filled with oxygen) & allow oxygen to diffuse out.
  7. 7What is osmosis?Diffusion of a liquid through a semi-permeable membrane.
  8. 8What is a semi-permeable membrane?A barrier that allows some substances through but not others.
  9. 9How is osmosis used in plant roots?Water molecules diffuse through root hair cell membranes from the soil into the cell.
  10. 10How do plants become turgid?Water in pant cell, they bulge & become stretched.
  11. 11What is active transport?Movement of molecules that requires energy.
  12. 12When is active transport used in plants? To move nitrate ions from the soil into the roots.
