Fichas del conjunto (20)
- 1The nephronThis is a structure which runs between the cortex and the medulla of the kidneys.
- 2The cortexThe outside of the kidneys
- 3The medullaThe inside of the kidneys
- 4The renal arteryThe tube that blood enters the nephron through.
- 5The afferent arterioleA tube which allows blood to flow into the glomerulus.
- 6The glomerulusA bundle of capillaries through which ultrafiltration occurs.
- 7The bowman's capsuleA tubule where the glomerular filrate flows into.
- 8Capillary endotheliumThe membrane of the capillary and it allows amino acids and other small substances through it.
- 9The basement membraneThe second layer of membrane between the capillary and the Bowman's capsule. Prevents amino acids from entering.
- 10The epithelium of Bowman's capsuleThe final layer of the passage and only allows glomerular filtrate through
- 11The efferent arterioleAllows blood to flow through from the glomerulus. It is thin increasing glomerular pressure so ultrafiltraion can occur.
- 12Proximal convoluted tubule (PCT)A tube where selective reabsorption can occur. It allows the filtrate to travel to the loop of Henle.
- 13The descending limbA tube of the loop of Henle which has walls permeable to water so water an move out by osmosis.
- 14The loop of henleThis a long tube where water water reabsorption occurs
- 15The ascending limbThis is the leaving tube of the loop of henle which has walls permeable to Na+ so these ions can move out by facilitated diffusion.
- 16The distal convoluted tubuleWater also moves out of this tubule.
- 17The collecting ductThis is a tube which collects urine and alloww it to flow to the ureter
- 18The ureterThis is a tube which carries the urine to the bladder
- 19The bladderThe site of urine storage
- 20The urethraA tube which carries urine to the outside of the body
