- 1What is RAM?RAM is an acronym for Random Access Memory and is a type of computer memory that can be accessed randomly. (Any byte of memory can be accessed without touching the other bytes. RAM is the most common type of memory found in computers and other devices such as printers.
- 2What is ROM?ROM is an acronym for Read Only Memory. This type of memory is memory that cannot be changed - such as prerecorded data. Once data on the ROM chip has been finalised it cannot be changed. it cannot be removed just read.
- 3What is Cache memory?Cache memory is a collection of the same type of items stored in one place - normally hidden or in an inaccessible area. Cache memory is very expensive because of fast it is. It is fast because of the distance to the Main memory.
- 4What is an algorithm? An algorithm is a set of instructions or rules to be followed in calculations or other problem solving operations mainly in a computer. It is kind of like a flow chart.
- 5What is used in an algorithm to represent the start and end of an Algorithm? An Oval Shape
- 6What is used to represent decisions in an algorithm?A diamond shape
- 7What does the arrows mean in an algorithm? The are flow arrows that link the shapes of the flow chart together.
- 8What represents input and output operations? This shape is kind of like a rhombus or a slanted square.
- 9What are rectangles used for in an Algorithm? The represent a procedure or a step that has been made.
- 10What is a Pseudocode?A Pseudocode is another way of writing an Algorithm. It is an outline of a program that can easily be translated into programming statements because of the worldwide known pseudocode terms.
- 11What is an Input device?A peripheral device used to input data into a computer, e.g. mouse, keyboard, scanner, microphone
- 12What is an output device?A peripheral device that can be attached to a computer to output data e.g. printer, speakers, monitor
- 13What is a Peripheral device? An item of hardware that is connected to a computer to add an extra functionally. They are divided into input and output devices.
- 14What is ALU (Arithmetic and Logic Unit)?A main component of the CPU, it performs the arithmetic and logical operations - like calculations and comparisons.
- 15What is Binary?A type of language that computers understand and use to encode and decode instructions and operations. There are only two possible values. These values are: 0 or 1, on or off, true or false, etc.
- 16What are the three types of storage?Magnetic Storage
Optical Storage
SSD - Solid State
