Carbon Cycle

Fichas del conjunto (7)
- 1Carbon Cyclecritical to all ecosystems as it is part of the food chain. All living things are made of carbon (compounds like proteins, fats, and carbohydrates) and this carbon is recycled in various ways within an environment
- 2Carbon Cycle

- 3CombustionCarbon is released into the atmosphere during the process of burning fossil fuels – heating homes, driving cars.
- 4PhotosynthesisCarbon is absorbed by producers (autotrophs) - plants that make their own food through photosynthesis.
- 5ConsumptionCarbon compounds are passed to herbivores when they feed on photosynthetic plants. These compounds are then passed up the food chain when the herbivores are eaten.
- 6Metabolism/RespirationCarbon dioxide waste is a byproduct of energy creation powered by the consumption of food. Carbon dioxide enters the atmosphere through cellular respiration.
- 7DecompositionCarbon dioxide is given off when organisms die. Decomposers break down the dead matter and carbon compounds are released into the soil. These compounds can sometimes turn into fossil fuels which will undergo combustion in the future.
