Fichas del conjunto (16)
- 1In which part of the cell is energy released during respiration?Mitochondria
- 2Why is it possible to see a bacterial colony but not a single bacterium? One bacterium is very tiny. Many bacteria massed together in a colony can be seen
- 3Why do muscles cells need a lot of mitochondria?Mitochondria release energy which muscles need for movement
- 4What determines the net movement of particles across a cell membrane? The concentration on either side of the membrane
- 5What does glandular tissue produce?Enzymes or hormones
- 6Where is soluble food absorbed? In the small intestine
- 7List the structures which are found in both animal and plant cellsCell membrane, cytoplasm, nucleus, mitochondria, ribosomes
- 8Give three features of a plant or algal cell which are not found in animal cellsCell wall, chloroplasts, permanent vacuole filled with sap
- 9Where do most chemical reactions take place in a cell?In the cytoplasm
- 10Name three organs in the human digestive systemThree of: Salivary gland, pancreas, stomach, liver, small intestine, large intestine
- 11What chemical produced by the liver aids digestion?Bile
- 12Give two differences between a plant leaf cell and a yeast cellLeaf cells have chloroplasts and a cellulose cell wall
Yeast does not have chloroplasts and no cellulose in it's wall - 13When, and in which direction, will diffusion take place in solutions and in gases? If two solutions are separated by a cell membrane, particles will move from a region of low concentration . Gases will also diffuse through the air from a region of high concentration to a region of low concentration
- 14What is meant by the term differentiation of cells? When cells start to divide they are very similar. As the tissues develop the cells change to form particular cells with particular functions
- 15How is a leaf cell adapted to carry out photosynthesis? The leaf has mesophyll tissue. The mesophyll cells contain chloroplasts which can photosynthesise
- 16Describe in detail what happens to food as it passes through the digestive systemFood is mixed with digestive juices produced by glands. It's digested in the stomach and the small intestine. Bile produced by the liver is added to the food to help digestion. Absorption of the soluble food takes place in the small intestine. Water is absorbed by the large intestine
