1. The purpose of CPU

   • the part of the computer system that controls the computer
   • referred to as "brains" of the computer
   • CPU also known as processor or microprocessor
   • responsible for executing a sequence of stored instructions called a program
   • CPU = Central Processing Unit

2. The functions of a CPU

   • carries out the instructions of a computer program
   • performs basic arithmetical, logical, and input/output operations of a computer system

3. Cache memory

   • is a hardware cache used by the CPU of a computer to reduce the time it takes to access data from the main memory
   • is a smaller, faster memory, closer to processor core, which stores copies of data from frequently used main memory locations.
