   • Simple
     • Cuboidal
       • srtucture
         • Square shaped cells attached to a basement membrane - found in kidney tubules and thyroid gland
       • Function
         • Provide some protection to structures underneath. Allow substances to pass through e.g. water. Also secretes some substances e.g. medicines.
     • Cilliated columnar
       • Structure
       • Function
     • Squamous
       • Function
         • Allows substances to pass through e.g. CO2 and O2 in the lungs and capillaries. Provides limited protection to tissues below.
       • Structure
         • Flat cells arranged close together like a 'pavement' on a basement membrane. Capillary walls and walls of alveolar sacs are composed of SSE
   • Stratified
     • Keratinised

     • Non-Keratinised
