1. The power supply unit is designed to take the power from the wall outlet and send it to all of the components that need power

2. RAM is a systems short term memory, it temporarily stores data until it is needed or the system is turned off.

3. The heat sink is a piece of metal that covers the CPU which draws heat away from the processor.

4. The CPU is considered 'the brain' of the computer as it processes information and carries out commands.

5. The motherboard is a large but thin circuit board that contains some of the most important parts of the computer. It connects directly or indirectly to every part of the computer.

6. Expansion slots are where expansion cards are inserted to upgade your computer.

   • The video card is responsible for what you see on the monitor. You can add a faster video card to one of the expansion slots to get a better performance.

7. The Hard drive is used for long term storage. Many newer computers use solid state drives instead of magnetic platters because they are faster and more durable but they are also more expensive.
