Secondrary Storage

1. All data or application is stored when not in use.

   • Magnetic Hard Disks
     • HDDs are common internal storage
     • Read/Write heads on amoving arm are used access sectors on the disks
     • Made up of stack of magnetised metal disks
     • Data is stored magnetically in small areas called sectors within the circular tracks
   • Optical drives
     • CDs DVDs Blue-Ray
     • 3 Forms
       • Read-only
       • Write-once
       • Rewritable
     • Disadvantage: Slow Speed and poor reliability, can get scratched
     • Advantage: Cheap, portable
   • Solid State Drive
     • No moving parts-
     • Faster read/write time than HDD
     • E.g. Flash Storage - SD, USB
