    1. Male authority over women suggests he didn't have a choice about their marriage
    2. "When us was wed she turned afraid"
      1. She wasn't afraid until after they were married
      2. "We chased her" (hunting imagery)
        1. Suggests her terror
        2. "We caught her"
          1. The whole village seems to be involved which adds to the sense of being hunted
          2. "last...fast" (rhyming couplet)
            1. Emphasises the decisive action of locking her away
            2. "Look round like children at her call" (simile)
              1. Shows the farm animals trust her and look after her
              2. "black earth spread white with rime"
                1. Winter is used to suggest the decay to his frustration
                2. "but a stair Betwixt us"
                  1. He is away of her physical closeness, adding to his frustration
                  2. "her eyes, her hair, her hair! (frantic-sounding repetition)
                    1. Shows he's breaking down and losing control
